   Chengdu - Panda  

85% of the worlds pandas live in Sichuan province where the centre is located. The Research Base is one of the most important centres in China for the captive conservation of giant pandas, the aim is to increase the captive population of giant pandas. Many types of bamboo, trees, and flowers grow at the Research Base.Several species of birds also make their home there. Endangered species such as giant pandas, red pandas, and black-necked cranes reproduce well at the Research Base

 
    Giant Buddha  

Leshan Giant Buddha is the largest stone sculpture of Buddha in the world sits at the meeting of the Minjiang, Dadu and Qingyi rivers. According to records, the carving of this giant Buddha was begun in the in the first year of the reign of the Tang Emperor Tang Xuanzong (713 AD), and completed in the 19th year of Emperor Dezong (803 AD), a total of 90 years.

The Buddha measures 71 meters in height. His shoulders are 28 meters across. The head is 14.7 metes long and 10 meters broad with total 1021 buns of hair on it. The instep, which is 8.5 meters wide, can accommodate 100 people. The toe is large enough to accommodate a dinner table. Taller by 17 meters than the standing Buddha in Afghanistan, Leshan Giant Buddha is therefore the tallest Buddha in the world and in 1996 it was added to the World Cultural Heritage List.

 
   Jiuzhaigou  

Jiuzhaigou has a wonderful mountain scenery in the far west of China it is located in the north of Sichuan Province and is known far and wide as "a fairyland." The name Jiuzhaigou came from nine Tibetan villages scattered throughout the valley. Its attraction lies in its simple beauty; a fairyland, primitive and natural and still in its pristine state. It has majestic and unrivalled emerald lakes, layered waterfalls, colourful forests, snow peaks and Tibetan folk villages, all blending in harmony with each other.

   
 
   
   The Lijiang  

Lijiang is quaint old town in south west china. First built in the late Song Dynasty over 800 years ago. Has been extensively restored particularly after a large earthquake in 1996. It is on the UNESCO list of World Relics. Lijiang is in the centre of Yunnan Province in China's South West and has long been a favourite getaway for Chinese and foreign tourists looking to escape China's summer heat. The spiritual home of the Naxi people, one of China's many minorities, Lijiang is sited at the foot of the Jade Dragon Mountains and is characterised as a maze like village of small one-two storey traditional wooden houses, packed closely together, cobbled streets inaccessible to most vehicles, all bisected by running streams cascading through the village as run-offs from the Jade Dragon River.

 
    Tiger Leaping Gorge  

Tiger Leaping Gorge is about 100 kilometers (62 miles) northwest of Lijiang Old Town lying between Jade Dragon Snow Mountain (Yulong Xueshan) and Haba Snow Mountain (Haba Xueshan) is Tiger Leaping Gorge (Hutiao Gorge), which is believed to be the deepest gorge in the world. According to local legend, the gorge acquired its name because, at its narrowest point (90 feet), a tiger once leapt over the swirling waters. 17 kilometers long, the gorge drops about 300 meters in a series of 18 rapids, and is divided into the Upper Gorge, the Middle Gorge and the Lower Gorge.

   Zhongdian    

Zhongdian in Hunan province in west China - sometimes known as Shangrila, with the famous Jietang Songlin Monastery with 800 monks and much Tibetan culture.
